Problem: – Railway track line was proposed in between Kota-Bina Junction, and the contract was
given to Subhash Infra engineers Pvt. Ltd. by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited on tender basis. Earlier,
traditional concreting was to be done but it was taking about two months for overall preparation
and readiness with shuttering, concrete pouring, curing etc.
Solution: – Concrete Impregnated Carpet was used due to ease of installation and its
effectiveness against weathering and rainy season water flow cases. Works to be in position to
channelize water. But as the rainy season was at the door they needed fastest installation so they
moved to concrete canvas and completed the work within a span of one week.
The profile of the drain including excavation and preparation was done by the SSPL and
installation of CIC was carried. On an average of 10 labours per day were applied under
supervision of site engineer. The patches of the CIC were joined with thermal welding to prevent
the ingress of water and air from the joints. The description of the work is stepwise illustrated in
the photos given below. Proper hydration of the installed patches was done to achieve maximum
strength, generally half the weight of the CIC is preferred for hydration.
